Day Two
- Today we are planning what hobbies you want to do over the Christmas season. Not when you will do them though – that comes later.
- You might have hobbies that you just do everyday and they don’t change for the season or you might add some extra ones on that you only do at Christmas as we spoke about yesterday.
- For everyday hobbies that I keep all year round I personally like to tweak them for the season that I’m in. For example, Christmas cross stitch projects and cosy, Christmas books. But I might sprinkle some non-themed books/projects in there too; don’t confine yourself too much. Remember, a hobby is meant to be fun!
- Make a list of your Christmas hobbies whether they are ones you do all year round or just for Christmas. For me, it’s cross stitch, reading and colouring in (I have a new Christmas colouring in book for this year) and then I will sprinkle in some baking, gaming, Lego etc.
- Don’t think you are going to fit in every single hobby you love to do. Your top 3-5 favourite hobbies for Christmas is a good place to start, and of course it depends on how busy your season is. You might be thinking “Hannah, you have 6” but I only bake two or three times over the season. And I am in a season where I have a little more time than I did when my kids were tiny toddlers.
- Now it’s time to get specific for Christmas cross stitch projects. As a basic starting point I recommend choosing 2-3 projects to stitch over the Christmas season, but this of course depends on a few things.
- If the projects you have chose have already been started, or they’re nearly done, or you think you will be finished before the season is officially over, you might need to put some extra projects into your rotation.
- These could be more weather seasonal such as Winter/Summer (depending where you are) or have a mix of one large project and then a few smaller ones you can just pick up and put down.
- In my rotation I will have 2x Christmas themed projects, 1x Winter themed project and 2x projects that are nothing to do with the season at all. And they are all different sizes and different levels of concentration needed.
- Once you have picked your projects it’s time to get them ready! Make sure you have everything you need to stitch them – floss/aida/patterns etc and put them in separate bags if you can,
- Later in the plan-along I will be sharing tips on making a routine to fit all your hobbies and stitching into your Christmas season.
And that is it for today! This might seem repetitive if you have been in one of my challenges before, or listen to the podcast regularly, but sometimes we need the reminder and motivation to get ready for a new season, because no two seasons are the same – especially the Christmas season/December.
Happy planning!
