5 Cosy Autumn TV Shows
As much as I love listening to an audiobook when I am cross stitching, in the Autumn/Winter months I love having a show on and getting cosy inside while I’m cross stitching.
These are 5 shows that I have already seen that would make the perfect stitching companion during the cooler months.
Good Witch
Some of this show is on Netflix, but all of it is on Hallmark. I’ve only seen the Netflix series but I know there’s more around as Hallmark have a whole section of their website dedicated to this series.
It is so absolutely cheesy and adorable and easy to have on in the background while you’re stitching. If you usually steer away from witchy type shows but love small town TV I still think you would enjoy this because the witch part of it is very subtle.
In the Netflix parts, Sam and his son move to Middleton next door to Cassie, a witch who owns a store. He is a doctor and they butt heads a lot over the best ways to treat people but over the series they find ways to work together. Cassie also has a daughter Grace so we also see some of her life as a teenage daughter of the town witch.
It’s very wholesome and perfect to watch this time of year as each series kicks off at Halloween and I don’t think there’s many that go past winter.
Virgin River
This show had me hooked from day 1. It is a little heavier than cosy; it deals with a lot of issues such as alcoholism, domestic abuse and still birth so if that will hurt you to watch in any way please stay away from it.
But it also does have a cosy feel and small town life and the scenery is just amazing.
The show centers around Mel and Jack. Mel moved to virgin river from the city after a series of horrendous events in her life and is hired as another town doctor. Jack owns the local bar and helps her settle in. It’s about the ups and downs of small town life along with some bigger issues that go on in the lives of the people that live there.
I just adored this show and I can’t wait for the new series.
Gilmore Girls
Do I need to say more? I felt a little weird putting this on the list as it seems like it’s a given but I know there are people out there who still haven’t seen it. Joyce from the cross stitch club was one of those people and only started watching it recently after hearing me talk about it.
Gilmore girls is very long; 7 series with 21 or 22 episodes each plus 4x 90 minutes films at the end.
Personally I just love the first 3 or 4 series so much and rewatch them every autumn and then I usually skip the rest. They just make me feel so cosy; it’s like a big hug.
Lorelai had a baby at 16 and we step into her life when that baby, Rory is also turning 16. Straight away we see the relationship they have and it’s a very close one. Unlike the relationship between Lorelai and her mother, Emily. We watch these 3 woman try and come together, handle disagreements, let things go, deal with the past over the show.
The older I get the more I love it; I think it has something for every generation. And a lot of pop culture references, most of which go over my head but I don’t care.
Sweet magnolias
This show is the cutest. It’s a little more summer than autumn but cosy enough that I think it could work. Especially if you live in a climate that doesn’t really change with the seasons.
Maddie is recentry divorced and she’s raising her 3 kids while trying to open a spa with her 3 best friends.
The friendship storyline in this one is what had me. They are like sisters and I love it.
You also get small peeks into the life of the teenagers but it’s not heavily focused on that. It’s more about these 3 women trying to find their way in the world, finding love, deciding on children and I truly hope they do more series of this show.
Once upon a time
This final spot was a hard one to fill because there are so many shows out there with cosiness but I wanted to share one slightly different.
This is a show about Storybrooke; a town that is made up of magical creatures and people who have forgotten who they truly are. The first series is a little meh to be honest but it just gets better.
If you want some magic over this season but no horror this is the perfect show. It is long, but it’s worth it.
